Islamic Racism in Selecting Marriage Partners

Here is the ruling on Arab Muslim women marrying Non-Arab Muslim men from a very popular classical 14th century legal text from the Shafi’i school:

m4.0 A SUITABLE MATCH (KAFA’A)

m4.1 Suitability concerns lineage, religiousness, profession, and being free of defects that permit annulling the marriage contract.

m4.2 The following are not suitable matches for one another:

(1) a non-Arab man for an Arab woman (Umar Barakat (d.1890): because of the hadith that the Prophet said, “Allah has chosen the Arabs above others”)

(2) a corrupt man for a virtuous woman

(3) a man of a lowly profession for the daughter of someone with a higher profession, such as a tailor wanting to marry a merchant’s daughter

(4) or someone with a defect that permits annulling the marriage for someone without such defects

Being wealthy has nothing to do with suitability, nor does being elderly.

m4.3 The marriage agreement is invalid whenever a guardian marries his charge to someone who is not a suitable match for her, if done without both her acceptance and the acceptance of all who are eligible as guardians and are on the guardian’s level of relation to her. But if both these parties agree, then the bride’s relatives further from her than the guardian may not object.

m4.4 When the father or father’s father see that the best advantage is to be served by marrying a young boy (or girl) to someone, they may do so, though they are not entitled to marry the child to someone with a physical defect that legally permits annulment of the marriage.

m4.5 If a person is foolhardy or continuously insane, but needs to marry, then his father, grandfather, or the Islamic magistrate may marry him to someone. If they grant permission to the foolhardy person to marry himself, his marriage is valid, though if he does so without their leave, it is invalid.

The Godzilla of Islam

 

The Beast as described in the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation. With it’s tiger color, horns, being kind of bull headed, lion chested, and having cat hips, this beast resembles Islam’s beast quite a bit. Muhammad most probably got the idea for his beast from cultural renditions of this Biblical beast.

Here is a sketch of Islam’s beast, a useful depiction, but this sketch overlooks a number of details. The head is not that of a bull, the coloring is not that of a tiger, the neck is not that of an ostrich, and the creature is not to scale. It should be at least 80 feet tall.

Quran 27:82 And when the Word is fulfilled against them (the unjust), we shall produce from the earth a beast to (face) them: He will speak to them, for that mankind did not believe with assurance in Our Signs.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: The Emergence of the Beast of the Earth

This is the beast which will emerge at the end of time, when mankind has become corrupt and neglected the commands of Allah and changed the true religion. Then Allah will cause a beast to emerge from the earth. It was said that it will be brought from Makkah, or from somewhere else, as we shall discuss in detail below, if Allah wills. The beast will speak to people about matters.Ibn `Abbas, Al-Hasan and Qatadah said, and it was also narrated from `Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, that it will speak words, meaning, it will address them. Many Hadiths and reports have been narrated about the beast, and we will narrate as many of them as Allah enables us to, for He is the One Whose help we seek. Imam Ahmad recorded that Hudhayfah bin Asid Al-Ghifari said, “The Messenger of Allah came out from his room while we were discussing the matter of the Hour. He said:

(The Hour will not come until you see ten signs: the rising of the sun from the west; the smoke (Ad-Dukhan); emergence of the beast; the emergence of Ya’juj and Ma’juj; the appearance of `Isa bin Maryam, upon him be peace; the Dajjal; and three land cave-ins, one in the west, one in the east and one in the Arabian Peninsula; and a Fire which will emerge from the midst of Yemen, and will drive or gather the people, stopping with them whenever they stop for the night or to rest during the day.)” This was also recorded by Muslim and the Sunan compilers from Hudhayfah, in a Mawquf report. At-Tirmidhi said, “It is Hasan Sahih.” It was also recorded by Muslim from Hudhayfah in a Marfu` report. And Allah knows best.

Another Hadith

Muslim bin Al-Hajjaj recorded that `Abdullah bin `Amr said, “I memorized a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah which I never forgot afterwards. I heard the Messenger of Allah say:

(The first of the signs to appear will be the rising of the sun from the west, and the emergence of the beast to mankind in the forenoon. Whichever of them appears first, the other will follow close behind it.)

Another Hadith

In his Sahih, Muslim recorded that Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allah said:

(Hasten to do good deeds before six things appear: the rising of the sun from the west; the smoke; the Dajjal; the beast; the (death) of one of your favorite, or general affliction.) This was recorded by Muslim alone. Muslim also recorded that Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the the Prophet said:

(Hasten to do good deeds before six things appear: the Dajjal; the smoke; the beast of the earth; the rising of the sun from the west; and the (death of one of your favorite) or general affliction.)

Another Hadith

Ibn Majah recorded from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah said:

(Hasten to do good deeds before six things appear: the rising of the sun from the west; the smoke; the beast; the Dajjal; and the (death of one of your favorite) or general affliction.) He was the only one who recorded this version.

Another Hadith

Abu Dawud At-Tayalisi recorded from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah said:

(A beast will emerge from the earth, and with it will be the staff of Musa and the ring of Sulayman, peace be upon them both.It will strike the nose of the disbelievers with the staff, and it will make the face of the believer bright with the ring, until when people gather to eat, they will be able to recognize the believers from the disbelievers.) It also was recorded by Imam Ahmad, with the wording:

(It will strike the nose of the disbelievers with the ring, and will make the face of the believer bright with the staff, until when people gather for a meal, they will say to one another, O believer, or O disbeliever.) It was also recorded by Ibn Majah. Ibn Jurayj reported that Ibn Az-Zubayr described the beast and said, “Its head is like the head of a bull, its eyes are like the eyes of a pig, its ears are like the ears of an elephant, its horns are like the horns of a stag, its neck is like the neck of an ostrich, its chest is like the chest of a lion, its color is like the colour of a tiger, its haunches are like the haunches of a cat, its tail is like the tail of a ram, and its legs are like the legs of a camel. Between each pair of its joints is a distance of twelve cubits. It will bring out with it the staff of Musa and the ring of Sulayman. There will be no believer left without it making a white spot on his face, which will spread until all his face is shining white as a result; and there will be no disbeliever left without it making a black spot on his face, which will spread until all his face is black as a result, then when the people trade with one another in the marketplace, they will say, `How much is this, O believer’ `How much is this, O disbeliever’ And when the members of one household sit down together to eat, they will know who is a believer and who is a disbeliever. Then the beast will say: `O so-and-so, enjoy yourself, for you are among the people of Paradise.’ And it will say: `O so-and-so, you are among the people of Hell,’ This is what Allah says:

(And when the Word is fulfilled against them, We shall bring out from the earth a beast for them, to speak to them because mankind believed not with certainty in Our Ayat.)

* The beast has 12 cubits between every joint – that’s 18 feet. This means that the total height of this beast is at least 8 stories tall – the size of an apartment building.

* The beast is an amazing combination of many animals; it has a Bull Head, an Ostrich Neck, Cat Hips, Deer Antlers, Elephant Ears, the Color of a Tiger, a Lion Chest, a Ram Tail, Camel Legs, and Pig Eyes.

* This thing somehow wound up with both the Staff of Moses and the Ring of Solomon, both objects of which are thought to have certain ‘powers’ or ‘abilities’. How does such a large creature with the legs of a camel have the dexterity to hold such tiny items in comparison to its size?

* This monster has a branding iron to brand people on the forehead with. Again, how does such a large creature with camel legs have the dexterity and accuracy to hold a branding iron and brand tiny human foreheads?

* The beast speaks human language. It is intelligent and has a human-like consciousness. It receives special knowledge from God so that it knows which humans to brand as believers and which humans to brand as disbelievers. It is a Prophet-Beast of sorts.

* This beast, that is the size of an apartment building, has the amazing ability to live underground – something that none of the animals it resembles are able to do. It is not clear whether the beast is already believed to be living, in the time of Muhammad or otherwise.

Powerful Mountain Angels are Ready to Kill People but are Otherwise Nowhere to be Seen

The Archangel Gabriel carries Mohammed on his shoulders over mountains where angels are shown among golden flames. In the Topkapi Palace Library, Istanbul.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 54, Number 454: Narrated ‘Aisha: That she asked the Prophet , ‘Have you encountered a day harder than the day of the battle) of Uhud?” The Prophet replied, “Your tribes have troubled me a lot, and the worse trouble was the trouble on the day of ‘Aqaba when I presented myself to Ibn ‘Abd-Yalail bin ‘Abd-Kulal and he did not respond to my demand. So I departed, overwhelmed with excessive sorrow, and proceeded on, and could not relax till I found myself at Qarnath-Tha-alib where I lifted my head towards the sky to see a cloud shading me unexpectedly. I looked up and saw Gabriel in it. He called me saying, ‘Allah has heard your people’s saying to you, and what they have replied back to you, Allah has sent the Angel of the Mountains to you so that you may order him to do whatever you wish to these people.‘ The Angel of the Mountains called and greeted me, and then said, “O Muhammad! Order what you wish. If you like, I will let Al-Akh-Shabain (i.e. two mountains) fall on them.”The Prophet said, “No but I hope that Allah will let them beget children who will worship Allah Alone, and will worship none besides Him.”

* These angels are so powerful that they could bring the mountains down on people if they choose. It’s too bad that these mountain angels don’t interact with human beings in other ways, we could certainly use such powerful beings in the world to effect a lot of good. Are they not interested in doing good in the world? Where are they?

* Call it a hunch, but something tells me that there is no such thing as invisible beings who can totally uproot a mountain and make it come crashing down on people. If there were such beings, wouldn’t that be a complete waste of a great resource? Do we really have a need for mountains crashing down on people? Judging by the number of mountains that have crashed down on people in history, zero, I would say not. 

Angels Hang Out in the Clouds and Even Steer Them

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 61, Number 536t: Narrated Usaid bin Hudair: That while he was reciting Surat Al-Baqara (The Cow) at night, and his horse was tied beside him, the horse was suddenly startled and troubled. When he stopped reciting, the horse became quiet, and when he started again, the horse was startled again. Then he stopped reciting and the horse became quiet too. He started reciting again and the horse was startled and troubled once again. Then he stopped reciting and his son, Yahya was beside the horse. He was afraid that the horse might trample on him. When he took the boy away and looked towards the sky, he could not see it. The next morning he informed the Prophet who said, “Recite, O Ibn Hudair! Recite, O Ibn Hudair!” Ibn Hudair replied, “O Allah’s Apostle! My son, Yahya was near the horse and I was afraid that it might trample on him, so I looked towards the sky, and went to him. When I looked at the sky, I saw something like a cloud containing what looked like lamps, so I went out in order not to see it.“ The Prophet said, “Do you know what that was?” Ibn Hudair replied, “No.” The Prophet said, “Those were Angels who came near to you for your voice and if you had kept on reciting till dawn, it would have remained there till morning when people would have seen it as it would not have disappear

* Clouds look like you could rest upon them or even travel upon them, but they are just large bodies of water vapor. There is an impression here that the angels are somehow at rest or traveling in the clouds. Why would they be flying in the sky masked by clouds? Are they trying to avoid radar or something (haha)? Lights in a cloud make the angels something tangible, but beyond that it doesn’t make much sense.

* Conveniently, once again, the cloud disappears before anyone can witness it.

* Gabriel pulls up to Muhammad in a cloud, like it can be driven. Beep!! Beep!! Hey, Muhammad up here! How could Muhammad even hear Gabriel if Gabriel is speaking from a cloud? Gabriel must have been speaking really really loud. And of course as usual, no one can hear him except Muhammad.

Muhammad Finds the Dajjal and His Hairy Monster Bodyguard Alive in His Time but Neither has Shown Up for 1,400 Years

 

Sahih Muslim, Book 041, Number 7028: Amir b. Sharahil Sha’bi Sha’b Hamdan reported that he asked Fatima, daughter of Qais and sister of ad-Dahhak b. Qais and she was the first amongst the emigrant women: Narrate to me a hadith which you had heard directly from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) and there is no extra link in between them. She said: Very well, if you like, I am prepared to do that, and he said to her: Well, do It and narrate that to me. She said: I married the son of Mughira and he was a chosen young man of Quraish at that time, but he fell as a martyr in the first Jihad (fighting) on the side of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him). When I became a widow, ‘Abd al-Rahman b. Auf, one amongst the group of the Companions of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him), sent me the proposal of marriage. Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) also sent me such a message for his freed slave Usama b. Zaid. And it had been conveyed to me that Allah’s Messenger (way peace be upon him) had said (about Usama): He who loves me should also love Usima. When Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) talked to me (about this matter), I said: My affairs are in your hand. You may marry me to anyone whom you like. He said: You better shift now to the house of Umm Sharik, and Umm Sharik was a rich lady from amongst the Anqir. She spent generously for the cause of Allah and entertained guests very hospitably. I said: Well, I will do as you like. He said: Do not do that for Umm Sharik is a woman who is very frequently vizited by guests and I do not like that your head may be uncovered or the cloth may be removed from your shank and the strangers may catch sight of them which you abhor. You better shift to the house of your cousin ‘Abdullah b. ‘Amr b. Umm Maktum and he is a person of the Bani Fihr branch of the Quraish, and he belonged to that tribe (to which Fatima) belonged. So I shifted to that house, and when my period of waiting was over, I heard the voice of an announcer making an announcement that the prayer would be observed in the mosque (where) congregational prayer (is observed).

So I set out towards that mosque and observed prayer along with Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) and I was in the row of the women which was near the row of men. When Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) had finished his prayer, he sat on the pulpit smiling and said: Every worshipper should keep sitting at his place. He then said: Do you know why I had asked you to assemble? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: By Allah. I have not made you assemble for exhortation or for a warning, but I have detained you here, for Tamim Dari, a Christian, who came and accepted Islam, told me something, which agrees with what I was-telling, you about the Dajjal. He narrated to me that he had sailed in a ship along with thirty men of Bani Lakhm and Bani Judham and had been tossed by waves in the ocean for a month. Then these (waves) took them (near) the land within the ocean (island) at the time of sunset. They sat in a small side-boat and entered that Island. There was a beast with long thick hair (and because of these) they could not distinguish his face from his back. They said: Woe to you, who can you be? Thereupon it said: I am al-Jassasa. They said: What is al-Jassasa? And it said: O people, go to this person in the monastery as he is very much eager to know about you. He (the narrator) said: When it named a person for us we were afraid of it lest it should be a Devil. Then we hurriedly went on till we came to that monastery and found a well-built person there with his hands tied to his neck and having iron shackles between his two legs up to the ankles. We said: Woe be upon thee, who are you? And he said: You would soon come to know about me. but tell me who are you. We said: We are people from Arabia and we embarked upon a boat but the sea-waves had been driving us for one month and they brought as near this island. We got Into the side-boats and entered this island and here a beast met us with profusely thick hair and because of the thickness of his hair his face could not be distinguished from his back. We said: Woe be to thee, who are you? It said: I am al- Jassasa. We said: What is al-Jassasa? And it said: You go to this very person in the monastery for he is eagerly waiting for you to know about you. So we came to you in hot haste fearing that that might be the Devil. He (that chained person) said: Tell me about the date-palm trees of Baisan. We said: About what aspect of theirs do you seek information? He said: I ask you whether these trees bear fruit or not.

We said: Yes Thereupon he said: I think these would not bear fruits. He said: Inform me about the lake of Tabariyya? We said: Which aspect of it do you want to know? He said: Is there water in it? They said: There is abundance of water in it. Thereupon he said: I think it would soon become dry. He again said: Inform me about the spring of Zughar. They said: Which aspect of it you want to know? He (the chained person) said: Is there water in it and does it irrigate (the land)? We said to him: Yes, there is abundance of water in it and the inhabitants (of Medina) irrigate (land) with the help of it, He said: Inform me about the unlettered Prophet; what has he done? We said: He has come out from Mecca and has settled In Yathrib (Medina). He said: Do the Arabs fight against him? We said: Yes. He said: How did he deal with him? We informed him that he had overcome those in his neighbourhood and they had submitted themselves before him. Thereupon he said to us: Had it actually happened? We said: Yes. Thereupon he said: If it is so that is better for them that they should show obedience to him. I am going to tell you about. myself and I am Dajjal and would be soon permitted to get out and so I shall get out and travel in the land, and will not spare any town where I would not stay for forty nights except Mecca and Medina as these two (places) are prohibited (areas) for me and I would not make an attempt to enter any one of these two. An angel with a sword in his hand would confront me and would bar my way and there would be angels to guard every passage leading to it; then Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) striking the pulpit with the help of the end of his staff said: This implies Taiba meaning Medina. Have I not, told you an account (of the Dajjal) like this? ‘The people said: Yes, and this account narrated by Tamim Dari was liked by me for it corroborates the account which I gave to you in regard to him (Dajjal) at Medina and Mecca. Behold he (Dajjal) is in the Syrian sea (Mediterranian) or the Yemen sea (Arabian sea). Nay, on the contrary, he is In the east, he is in the east, he is in the east, and he pointed with his hand towards the east. I (Fatima bint Qais) said: I preserved It In my mind (this narration from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him).

* Notice how easily Muhammad adds stories from the Arabs to his corpus of Islamic teachings.

* Notice the introduction of a new mythical creature, the hairy monster called al-Jassassah. He seems to be something like the Abominable Snowman.

* Muhammad, the last and greatest Prophet and Messenger of God confirms this story about the Dajjal and even comes up with his general location. The problem is that it has been 1,400 years now and the Dajjal still hasn’t come out of that monastery. Is he still alive? Afterall, the Dajjal is human and human beings don’t live 1,400 years. Did he ever exist? Muhammad found the Dajjal in his time but the Dajjal still hasn’t shown up. This is a false prophecy.
