Ants with Human-like Consciousness

Army Ants. Do they have Self-Awareness? Do they have Foresight?

Quran 27:18 At length, when they came to a (lowly) valley of ants, one of the ants said: “O ye ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it.”

Quran 27:19 So he smiled, amused at her speech; and he said: “O my Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours, which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee: And admit me, by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants.”

* These ants are conscious of a number of things:

1) They understand what trampling is

2) They understand that trampling has serious negative effects, thus they understand the concept of benefit vs. harm

3) They have the foresight to predict that people moving in their direction will trample them

4) They know Solomon by name

5) They recognize Solomon as the leader of the group approaching them, thus they understand the concept of status or ranks

6) They have a concept of what knowledge is, as they say, “unknowingly”

7) They are able to pass judgment upon Solomon’s personal character by implying that Solomon would not knowingly trample them

* These ants are described to have a human-like consciousness. Bugs have nowhere near this level of awareness, much less knowledge.

* If you are in doubt as to how aware an ant really is, try to step on one and see if it moves away from you. If it hardly reacts to you, what makes you think that it would have the foresight to determine so many things about an approaching army in the distance, much less know particular facts about them?

* The consciousness of ants as described here is even more than that of a young human child. The brain of an ant and the brain of a human child, are nowhere close in comparison.

Pigeons are Female Devils

Sunan of Abu Dawud, Book 41, Number 4922: Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) saw a man pursuing a pigeon. He said: A devil is pursuing a female devil.

* A devil is not just an evil jinn but it also means one who is astray. Muhammad means to call the man chasing the pigeon astray, but why does he call the pigeon a female devil? Since the gender of pigeons is not readily apparent, it seems that Muhammad might believe that pigeons are actually devils. Ok now, pigeons are birds. They might hang around looking for scraps and leave a lot of droppings, but they are not devils. In addition, what would be the purpose of a devil shape-shifting into a pigeon? And a female devil to boot? Why female? Is Muhammad asserting that this was a female devil in the disguise of a pigeon trying to lure the man chasing it? And how about Muhammad lighten up a bit? Calling a man a devil in a religious atmosphere like Muhammad’s isn’t a light thing. What was the guy doing? Chasing the pigeon for fun? Maybe chasing it away? He might have even been trying to catch it to eat it. None of these options merit insulting the guy and they certainly don’t merit portraying the guy as astray to the rest of the people – people who hang Muhammad’s every word.

* If Muhammad thinks pigeons are female devils then add it to the list of hundreds of ridiculous myths he teaches over his 23 year “prophethood”. He is also just maligning this guy chasing the pigeon horribly, and that is completely unreasonable.

Sahih Muslim, Book 004, Number 1032: Abu Dharr reported: The Messenger of ‘Allah (may peace be upon him) said: When any one of you stands for prayer and there is a thing before him equal to the back of the saddle that covers him and in case there is not before him (a thing) equal to the back of the saddle, his prayer would be cut off by (passing of an) ass, woman, and black Dog. I said: O Abu Dharr, what feature is there in a black dog which distinguish it from the red dog and the yellow dog? He said: O, son of my brother, I asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) as you are asking me, and he said: The black dog is a devil.

* Dogs can certainly look intimidating, especially black dogs, and especially street dogs.

* At first they were killing all dogs, and then limited it to only black dogs. This killing is not on the basis of black dogs being a problem, but because black dogs are devils. Anyone who has ever owned a black dog or any dog for that matter, knows that this is absolute nonsense. Devils, if they even exist, are not shape-shifting, pretending to be dogs, nor are our dogs possessed by devils (with the exception of chihuahuas – chihuahua owners know what I mean lol).
